What did David mean by these words? What and where is God’s house?
I can imagine David spending most of his “alone” time shepherding, playing his harp, singing and praying to God. He must have experienced a glimpse of God’s dwelling and longed not just to visit but to dwell in the Lord’s presence in eternity. Don’t you feel the depth of his longing to be with God?
God’s dwelling is where his presence is. As believers in Christ, we long to be with Him and enjoy His presence. We get a taste of heaven when we read His word, worship, and when we fellowship with other believers. However, every believer’s goal is to be with Jesus and see Him face to face. That is the real deal. And that would be a glorious day!
God promised us a place where there are many rooms for His people. A place where there is no more sorrow and no more pain. Where everything is perfect and holy - in the Father’s house!
2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:2-3
We are all looking forward to being with the Lord one day. This is our blessed hope that no one can steal from us. The realization of our hope is not here on earth. It is in heaven where God’s throne is. But one day, He will return and take us to be with Him. This world shall pass, all the sorrow and pain, all the discouragement, disappointment, fear, and suffering.
We, who trust in His saving grace, shall be with Him forever! Hallelujah!
38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
How does Psalm 23:6b impact your thoughts about the present and the future?
How do you experience the presence of God?
How do you prepare for Jesus’ return?
Prayer:
Lord, I want more of your presence. Please teach me how I can have a special time with you where I can focus on you to hear Your voice. I want to know You more and have a deeper relationship with you. Please draw me closer to you. Teach me how to dwell in Your presence. Thank you for your love and goodness towards me. In Jesus’ loving name, Amen!
