This past Sunday, October 5th, Northside Church had its very first Sunday service — and what a sweet start it was! Around 130 parishioners showed up. We saw a few familiar faces, met some friends, and got to know a lot of new ones too.
I’ve been wanting to be part of a smaller church ever since I moved to the U.S. in 2005. Back home in the Philippines, that’s what I was used to — a small church where everyone knew each other, stayed after service to chat, and asked how they could pray for one another. I’ve missed that feeling of closeness and community.
I’m an introvert, and while I love being around people, big crowds and social situations can sometimes feel overwhelming. But this Sunday felt different. Everyone we met was warm and welcoming, and it was easy to connect. We made a few new friends and are already looking forward to seeing them again next week.
Our associate pastor, Sam Burns, shared a few announcements and a short exhortation, and our lead pastor, Charles Kirby, gave the message. Dave Clinansmith led the worship. The whole service - the message, the atmosphere, and the worship as we lifted our voices in praise - everything was simple, heartfelt, and beautiful. There was something powerful in that simplicity. I’m sure Jesus enjoyed our worship just as much as we did in worshiping Him.
A little secret about me: I can’t help but tear up whenever I sense the presence of the Lord. That day, there was such a tender, unmistakable anointing in the air — I’m sure it was His presence moving among His people. In a large church, it’s easy to hide, especially when you sit up in the balcony. But in a smaller gathering, there’s no hiding! So if you ever notice a short lady with dark, curly hair crying during worship, that’s me — completely undone by His goodness. I figured I’d let you know now so you won’t have to wonder.
We’re excited to meet more people next Sunday! If you’d like to check us out, come join us at 4 p.m. at 635 Riley Street, Holland, right between Riley Street and Butternut Drive. It’s the same building as Eagles Wings Church. Come as you are — we’d love to see you there!
