This is not a prosperity gospel message. It’s about God’s people seeking and knowing God’s heart and enjoying a close relationship with Him and receiving His promises. God owns everything and He is generous. It is His will to give us the kingdom. So, what’s hindering the children from receiving God’s promises? Due to the length of this article, I will share two today and the rest next week. Stay tuned!

Hindrances to Receiving God’s Promises and 5 Secrets to Claim Them.
God wants a deep and loving relationship with you. Imagine that - the God and creator of the universe wants a relationship with you and all of humanity. With His hands He formed us according to His image and breathe life into us.
Yes, God formed us in our mother’s womb and saw our unformed body; He watched and protected us until we were born. Indeed, He has been actively involved in our lives even today. He blessed us with all kinds of blessings and promises, including His promised salvation from this world’s pain and darkness; and eternal salvation through His son, Jesus Christ. Aside from salvation, here is a list of some of His precious promises to us:
He is with us
His peace
His protection
His guidance
His provision
His rest
His comfort
His strength
However, did you know that God’s promises, even though they are freely given, they are not for everyone and they are not automatic? Recipients have a part in this process of promise-giving and receiving.
In other words, there are reasons why people don’t receive His promises and like doors, they are locked. How do we unlock them? Please understand that receiving God’s promises is not about performing a checklist of things to do and getting rewarded, rather they are results of a growing relationship with Him.
I’ve observed from God’s word and His work in people’s lives, that God’s promises are not given to those:
Who are not God’s children. God’s promises are given only to those who believe and call on His name – those who have faith in Him.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Salvation is received by faith. It is the greatest of all God’s promises. To be with Jesus in eternity is the greatest gift one could ever receive. Yet, it is not for everyone. Notice it is only for “whoever believes in Him.”
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
Believing in your “heart” and declaring with the “mouth” are evidence of faith.
And those who believe are adopted as God’s sons and daughters. Because of your faith you now have a relationship with the living God who is the giver of good and perfect gifts.
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12
To receive God’s promise: Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and accept Him as your Lord and Savior. Your relationship with Him as His child qualifies you to receive His promise of salvation and every inheritance that Jesus received from the Father, because you are now a co-heir with Christ. Our God is an awesome and loving God! Thank you, Jesus!
Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ… Romans 8:17
Who do not seek God Seeking God means searching for God’s will and what pleases Him; and choosing His will over our desires.
God knows what we seek. He knows our heart. He knows when we seek the “gift” more than the giver. This makes Him sad. Because when our hearts start seeking the things of this world that is when we drift away from God and His will.
God has always been after our heart and our heart’s affection. He wants us to seek Him and love Him with all our heart because knowing Him and loving Him are the very reasons He has created us. He longs to have a relationship with us and wants to bless us with His presence and everything else that is good for us.
God knows exactly what is good for us. The God who formed you into His image knows you, your personality, your skills, tendencies, spiritual and biological makeup. He also knows what makes us healthy, happy, sad, or frustrated. And He knows that when our heart loses sight of Him, we tend to drift away and start seeking things that are not good for us.
This world has so many things that can distract us from what is truly good.
Let us be reminded that God is our only source of good things. When we seek Him, we enjoy His goodness, and everything that comes from Him is good.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17
31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:31-33
When we seek God and His will instead of doing things our way, things in our life fall into the right places. God meets our needs, brings solution to our problems, delivers us from fear and He puts us on a solid ground.
To receive God’s promise: Seek God and His will with diligence and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4
In today’s blog, we learned about two possible reasons why we are not receiving God’s promise. These two include those who are not God’s children, and those who do not seek Him and His will.
My prayer is that as we learn to walk with Him daily, that we are reminded that we are His children and seeking Him is for our own protection, so we don’t drift away. It is only by staying close to Him that we will truly enjoy His promises.
Next week, I will share with you three more reasons why we are not receiving God’s promise. May your week be filled with God’s grace and peace. Shalom!
